AND YOU SAY CHI-CITY.........WE THINK ABOUT YOU NOW AND THEN.....
REACH FOR THE STARS SO IF YOU FALL YOU'LL LAND ON THE CLOUDS.........
As my road through the inaugural season of the Chicago Red Stars concludes (minus the ALLSTARS) I would like to say thank you. Instead of just following the Fire sporadically and playing softball all summer, you guys added a new chapter to my life, which in my book, is going to be a long one. Thank the staff first of all for making this first time around experience with out skipping a beat. Every game and event whether we won or lost was awesome. I can't explain to you guys my experience at Toyota park because it was one for the books. But what I can explain to you is how awesome it is to have a place like Toyota to be the home turf for my favorite team in the whole world. Last night when I was in STL for the final RS match of the season I ran in to Marcia McDermott. She always embraces me with smiles and exchanges happiness no matter what. We chatted for a bit and I was explaining to her that I had driven from Milwaukee and I had made it there in like 6 hours. A Milwaukee team came up in convo and she looked at me and said "uh oh, would you still be a RS fan?" I said HE77S YEAH! I root for all the home teams. BREWERS, BUCKS AND YES, THE PACKERS. I choose not to be skinned alive. Now, since Chicago was the closest team to me and I am absolutely infatuated with women’s pro soccer it was my only choice. I could have gone with STL considering it was the "other" Midwest team in the league but I chose not to and after last nights experience I am glad I didn't. Who doesn't want to sit amongst one of the most diverse crowds in the league? Who doesn't want stadium seating and the feeling of a real soccer pitch? Nobody wants to sit in an insect infested area getting badgered by not only the adults of the apposing team but the children as well. THIS $H!T FELT LIKE I WAS ON A DIRTY PLAYGROUND IN THE MIDDLE OF WHITE SUBURBIA AND I WAS NOT ONLY A RED STAR FAN BUT LITERALLY THE MINORITY AS WELL. I am 26 yrs old and right when I think things of inhumane nature don't take place in the little soccer world I witness that through my own rare brown eyes. And when I say brown its not what I see, its what they see. Now I am not going get into such graphic details of what exactly was said but when the least hurtful thing came from a 5yr old screaming at me Chicago "stinks" in a completely non-teasing childish manner and the parents don't say $hit but laugh and think its funny, there is something really wrong here. I know when I cross enemy lines I must be prepared for battle but when I go into war with 1 back up soldier and Im ambushed by craziness, I can do nothing but keep my peace and play dead. Did I play dead? HECK NO! I am from the hood and my anthem is far from national, its straight throw your hands in the air and waive them like I just don't care type $h!t. i.e. Kid says; "CHICAGO STINKS" I say: " not worst than your breath little guy" lol I know where some people but think that’s immature but I never have to see these people again and when you come at me with stupid things like that I have to keep my guard up and think quickly. My fellow RS fan follower and I sat on one side of the field aligned right with Jonnson to start the game so that meant we were on the STL attacking side. (Nice assist Nikki! jk) Well every time the ball would go to the right corner we had to get up to see the nice cross or play or whatever. So, every time we got up, which was like hmmmm maybe like 6 times because it was a terrible angle, we'd get screamed at to sit down. Really STL fans?.......you 5-6 old people that were sitting like 10 ft behind us to the left, was that necessary? You guys couldn't even say Lori Chalupnys last name correctly. Its like just because you were too old to get up fast like us didn't mean you needed to yell at us because if we had to get up to see and we were sitting about 10 ft closer, YOU obviously couldn't see. Respect the excitement, respect the game, respect me and most of all respect your team because when one see's things like this and had to go through it, one goes and writes about it and makes you look stupid. Then when the second half starts and STL is attacking that side and not only does THE WHOLE STL BENCH get up to see what’s going on in that terrible angle but so does the rest of the athletica crowd I hear not one word. Don't badger me because I cheer for the apposing team. Don't badger me at all. Maybe if you guys had a jumbo tron like Toyota park you guys wouldn’t have to miss a thing. Oh, I'm sorry but we weren't at Toyota park, we were in STL but far the worst place I’ve ever seen a soccer game ever. Bugs were eating me alive but not worse than the crowd. somewhere in between there STL was giving it to us but that’s besides the point. Yeah, were not in the play offs but that’s no reason to dishonor any level of greatness.
The body language wasn't there but hey, your heads were up and you played all 90+. I wouldn't have it any other way. Ella might have to take a trip to the dentist but that’s ok. Ella, Chioma and Carli all made promises to us and kept them. The ride home was horrendous fore All the cleats n jerseys we got from the players smelled like wet dog but wet dog never smelled sooo good.lol Thank you RS. Thank you Nikki and Michelle for the beach soccer fun. Thank you swedens and brazils and Scotland’s. Thank you olympians. Thank you Pinoe for letting me adopt you. Thank you Chioma, Natalie, Ella and Jill for keeping it real. Thank you Mariam for holding it down while you could. Thank you England for Kaz. Australia can have theirs back.....Thank you BK for being an example for all little big things in life and thank you readers. I know this might sound like I'm leaving but Its just the beginning. If we can get a crowd like we did last Sundays game Chicago will always shine like stars. same bat time same bat channel. I ran out of beer and I’m going to the bar. peace.
