Women's Professional Soccer

Today as I looked through the sports section of The Plain Dealer (for those of you who don't live in Cleveland, it's the major newspaper), I looked at the standings for the various teams. Something was different though, after the soccer heading, as usual the MSL schedule appeared, but beneath that was the current standings for all the WPS teams and who was playing in the upcoming game.

After looking for the WPS numerous times and failing to find it, this came as a surprise to me. I'm not sure if for other papers this is common, but it was good to know that the league is finally starting to get more recognition even in cities where a team is not present.

Boston Globe has the standings in the sunday paper. Could be in all of them but it is the only day I buy the paper so it is all I know off. But a new feature on boston.com is that the Breakers now share the header of the soccer page with the Revs and they have a schedule link that sends you right on to the Breakers website.

The Washington Post prints the WPS standings most days, but sometimes skips it if there wasn't a match the previous day. I'm okay with that. But of course we have a team - I'm glad to hear that the coverage is broad enough to have the standings even in cities that don't.
