Former Boston College midfielder Jenny Maurer is among a group of around 60 women who are taking part in the Boston Breakers' open tryout this week (Monday & Tuesday). Follow along on BostonBreakers.com over the next few days as Jenny shares with fans her unique point of view before, during and following the tryout from a player's perspective.
By: Jenny Maurer Everything you can do is now done. Nothing is left in your hands. You trained, you pushed yourself, you left everything you had on the field the last two days and that’s all that can be asked. You may sit and critique every play you made, or go over every mistake you made, but what is comes down to is you committed yourself fully and gave every ounce of effort in you.

Open tryouts are now over and the future is unknown, but I know that there are 63 women that can say they tried out to play professional soccer for the Boston Breakers because it was their dream, and that is something that can be said proudly.
Tuesday was an exciting day. It was another opportunity for everybody to showcase their talents and prove they should be selected to attend the Breakers preseason. We played full field games the entire time. Everybody was split into two groups, so half of the players played games from 9:30-11 and the second group then played from 11-12:30. I was in the second group so I had some extra time in the morning to relax, rest and prepare for the day. I went over to Harvard early and watched the first group play for a little while, and then the time came for my chance to get on the field.
The games were competitive, fun, and went by fast. It was over before you knew it. At 12:30, we stopped and had a short break, and then everyone reported back at 1:00 and each person played about 30 more minutes. Once again, the time flew by and when 2:30 arrived it took a few minutes for the reality to hit everyone that it was all over.
Coach DiCicco thanked everyone for coming at the end. He told us that very few people will get selected to attend the Breakers preseason, but he really wanted us all to understand that if playing professional soccer is truly our dream then we should continue pursuing it if things don’t work out as we hope with the Breakers. He encouraged people to attend other tryouts, train with WPSL teams, and maybe one day that dream will come true.
I have no idea what’s lays ahead for me in the future. I don’t know if I will be selected to attend the Breakers preseason or not. What I do know is that I love to play soccer and no matter what happens I will continue to play. Whether it be in the backyard with my nieces and nephews, with the New England Mutiny, alone with a kickboard, or professionally, I will be playing because it’s fun-and that’s what it’s all about.
