What went wrong? Chicago, the last placed team beats Washington, formerly a second placed team, now tetering on the edge of playoff contention. In fourth place, can the Freedom be losing their grip? What is Jim Gabarra thinking? A final score of 2-1, after the Freedom struck first. More on this abomination tomorrow.
Krieger's a very good player (I've been following her since 2004), so I'm not going to give up on her this quickly. Agree that Bompastor needs to move to midfield - Freedom have only scored 2 goals when she's been playing d. while giving up 3. Bring Alex Singer back and move Sonia to mid.
Freedom really need to step up on the 5th, or it could get ugly. I think they're capable of playing much better than they have in the past couple of games, they just need to do it.
Put the line up that moved us from last to second back in place. Krieger is a dissapointment...she has caused 3 goals in the last two games. She is slow and looks out classed. Not good! And no formidable attack from the back. We need Sonia back in the midfield and we need Gilbeau back at right full or put the two of them as mid wingers. The game has not been as exciting since he made the changes after the Sol loss. From what I saw on TV, that game went south because Lindsey was not on the field and the middle got tired. Kat made a mistake, and Sol is just good. Gabarra should go back to what was working...They have been sliding since the last RFK game. Blogs said he fixed the D then, but I submit Freedom got lucky and Chicago took advantage. If he doesn't go back before the 5th, Sol will score lots of goals.
firstly i want to go on record and say that the red stars did deserve their win, i didnt mean to sound negative towards the redstars, because they do have potential to be a great team, but the freedom should have won just based on how they HAD been playing. however, it seems to be falling apart for the freedom. the update will come later today! thanks for the comments everyone!
Someone on another forum pointed out the WPS jinx of second place: no second-place team this season has won a match yet, and their overall record is 0-6-6. The Freedom were in second after beating Athletica but then lost their next two matches.
The Freedom could have played better, but as Milan notes, for about the first time this season the Red Stars played up to their talent level, and the Freedom didn't match it. Let's at least hope that it makes the players angry enough to give their all against LA this Sunday, because they're going to need to.
This was no fluke. The Red Stars are talented and they played like the Red Stars that everyone expected them to play at the beginning of the season. Red Stars are not garbage. They have 4 players that are on the USWNT and most of the other starters are on other country's national teams. They haven't played as a team so far. I was at the game. Red Stars played like a team posessed who had something to prove. Red Stars IMO, controlled most of the game and totally outshot the Freedom.
