Women's Professional Soccer

As an intern here at the Chicago Red Stars, I have constantly been encouraged to write a blog since I began working here. I have never been one to read blogs, let alone write one, but here I am today...writing my first blog post.
Why today, well something very special to me (and the whole soccer community) happened today. Today was the allocation of US National Team players to the seven WPS teams. I can't believe this day has finally arrived. Now the Red Stars, and all the other WPS markets, have names to associate with their city. Now we have players to watch, study, admire and hope to become. This is so crucial to the team and the fans. Now it seems to be offical. Women's professional soccer is back in the US. We have the players to prove and promote it.
This is so special to me because I have been waiting for it since the WUSA folded. Girls all over the country that have dedicated their lives to the sport have be given the chance to fulfill their dreams. Only a select few girls get to represent our country, that leaves little choices for the hundreds (if not thousands) of girls who finish with college and want to continue their careers. The WPS is the chance for other these other top foreign and domestic players to compete professionally in the US. With allocation complete now we can look forward to the international and domestic drafts. We are now one step closer to kicking off women's professional soccer! April can't come soon enough. So congratulations to all the teams and players, and welcome to the three new Red Stars: Carli Llyod, Kate Markgraf, and Lindsay Tarpley!
