So it's been rather quiet on the blog front excluding the whole Lambret incident, the only thing I'll say about that is it brought attention to women's soccer for the wrong reasons but attention none the less. I figured since I'm taking an incredibly hard history class why not put a spin on the subject on an area that I can actually focus on. That brings me to the womens national team. This is just some stuff that I found interesting about the previous years of the team.
Our first game in 1985…

Ok as those of you who follow Cat Whitehill's twitter may already know she posted a link to watch the USWNT vs. Germany game. I have know idea if it works, but I really hope it does. I'm just as shocked and upset as the rest of us that #1 vs. #2 is not being broadcast on television. Oh and here's the link to get there:

Most professional athletes didn't start out with a formal coach, trainer, physical therapist or an agent. How they usually begin their journey is quite simply how any kid would. Playing with the ball until it got too dark to see out. Skipping dinner to just play for another hour, sacrificing boring homework for something that they were and still are passionate about. When you're a kid you see the life you want and think that nothing is going to get in your way. Of all the little kids out there o…

On March 29, 2009 the last sport to cross my mind was basketball and how much I was going to miss spending every day with my teammates. I had no idea that a league such as this even existed. I had watched some videos about Natasha Kai after the olympics, it turns out that one of those was when she was getting interviewed about what she thought the WPS would be like. The title, logo and a soon-to-be WPS star were staring back through the screen and I didn't realize what it all was about. We all h…

As good as we all know deep down how good Marta is, even if we don't want to admit it, her team with the exception of Umea IK, has always come in second.
2007: WWC- we all remember that Brazil may have beaten USA, but failed to do the same with Germany.
2008: Beijing Summer Olympics- redemtion for USA, again second place for Marta and Brazil.
The most recent:
2009: WPS Championship- SBFC 1 vs. LA SOL 0, here we see Marta again only one game away from being crowned champions and yet again it it's…

For some people what can go wrong will go wrong, others however good things seem to fall into their laps. I can usually be described as the first one, except this past week when an oppurtunity presented itself and each time I think about these events I believe less and less in coincidence.
As some might already know I don't live in a WPS city and the closest one is a good six hour drive from my house in a Cleveland suburb. I knew I probably wouldn't get to see a WPS game in person, so I had to…

For those of us who are or have played a sport in high school or even walked through a typical locker room like that have all seen the inspirational posters. Whenever I read those I did one of three things: laughed in my head, rolled my eyes, or was actually inspired to be better at whatever I was doing at that time. Most famous people who have accomplished great things have famous quotes from athletes to inventors. They all have one thing in common though, which is they overcame adversity to ac…

Tonight as I walked into a local restaurant called Fiesta Jalapeno (for those of you who need to work on their spanish that's Party Pepper) I saw some one who looked identical to Marta (if you don't know who that is by now, we've got bigger problems). To add to the fact that she not only looked like her, on the flat screens the Brazilian Men's National Team was playing. I thought that was a little strange, I assume an employee must have recorded it.
Unfortunately, not everyone can live in a fat…

Today as I looked through the sports section of The Plain Dealer (for those of you who don't live in Cleveland, it's the major newspaper), I looked at the standings for the various teams. Something was different though, after the soccer heading, as usual the MSL schedule appeared, but beneath that was the current standings for all the WPS teams and who was playing in the upcoming game.
After looking for the WPS numerous times and failing to find it, this came as a surprise to me. I'm not sure i…
