This was an incredibly frustrating season to watch. I've admittedly suffered through worse seasons, such as 2002 when my beloved New York Power won a total of 2 games in a 21 game season following their heartbreaking defeat in the league semi-finals the year before. But somehow the pain is worse this time around. It might have something to do with seeing the damage in person. Or the $15 parking at Toyota Park, which costs more than the individual tickets, (Fact: Parking at Disneyland is $12.) pu…

According to my trusty internet capabilities, I was able to deduce that the
Euro 2009 championship group play will be in full swing during the WPS All-Star game.
It's pretty obvious that some of the best players in the league are those from Europe, so I get the feeling that there will be some empty roster spots at the conclusion of the voting. It would be nice to honor these players by giving them the first roster sp…

I
read that LA Sol have officially clinched a playoff berth and I couldn't help but think back to 10 months ago, last fall. If you had told me then that the LA Sol would pretty much steam roll everyone else in the league I would not have been at all shocked.
In typical LA sporting fashion (with the exception of the Clippers...why are they even still a team? Does anyone even go to those games?)…

At this point in time, I really don't think there's much I can say that we don't already know. Red Stars fans are mystified that our Brazilian superstar isn't starting. We're mystified that we have the least attack oriented formation ever. We're mystified that Chioma Igwe is still starting. We're...well, we're mystified about a lot of things.
So, in terms of technicalities, I voice the sentiments (with a few minor exceptions) of…

I had a lot of different title ideas for this one. My runner-up is: Tammy Pearman for MVP! Maybe I'll use that next time because it makes me giggle.
Anyway, I started internally writing this blog in about the 13th minute of the Red Stars game against Boston. I could be a good sport and give props to Boston and all, but quite frankly, I don't want to. Especially when there are more important things at hand....Like how we tremendously suck. If we were to rate ourselves on the Chicago levels of su…

Dear Red Stars,
You are officially in last place, with only two wins under your belt at the half-way point of a 20 game season. I shouldn't have to say anything. Go win.
I'm going to go watch the White Sox beat the Cubs now.
Sincerely,
Angie
P.S. -- I really need to stop having 2002 New York Power flashbacks, wherein they, too, only won 2 games the entire season.
Edit: Okay, I lied. I couldn't just leave off with that.

Wow. WPS overload today. Back-to-back-to-back game coverage.
Happy to see Athletica get a win this weekend. I really hope they can surge through and host some playoff games for post-season since I will have moved significantly closer to St. Louis and significantly farther from Chicago in August.
LA Sol and DC Freedom game was a good 'un. I was really excited to finally be able to watch one of my favorite players, Aly Wagner, play for a change...well for about 25 minutes. The play was just a pa…

I wanted to discuss briefly the Red Stars this evening. Mostly I just wanted to say how pleased I am. Way less offsides, great attacking opportunities and we're starting to see players taking initiative. I saw Cristiane actually play the role of play maker tonight instead of a one-woman skills demo. Anyone who has been at a game at Toyota Park knows that the whole crowd collectively holds their breath when she touches the ball anywhere near the attacking third. I understand she was probably feel…

The thing about power is that it has to be used appropriately and can never be abused. I feel that in order to have the largest effect, it should probably be used sparingly.
About midway through:
-Ian Sawyers suspension (which we're all aware of)
-Latham suspended
two games and fined $250 (Elbow; Tackle on Singer)
-Lohman suspended 1 game (already served)
-DiCicco fined $750 and given 4 ho…

Okay so the LA/FCGP game ended about 4 minutes ago and I didn't even watch it (I matchtracker-ed), BUT I can't help but posting.
I am burned out on WPS. Maybe it has something to do with my team losing 3 straight games. But mostly I think it's because I am watching these teams and they aren't playing up to their full potential. The shiny newness of the league has faded and what I am left with is frustratingly boring soccer.
Elaboration: My prime example will be Chicago Red Stars because I have…

I really enjoyed how each of the three games was on a separate night this weekend. For those of us who love every second of action, this was great. However, I'm going to repeat what many others have been saying, put this stuff online. Friday's game was on NBC Universal Sports, a channel that DirectTV and Dish subscribers don't get. This is information I discovered Friday when I googled frantically for a channel number. That really puts a lot of people out of the mix.
Anyway, moving on to indivi…

I want to start my blog entry this week by thanking everyone who read my blog last week. Your comments were very appreciated. Seriously, I was happy to hear opposing viewpoints and you guys gave me some information that I had not received. So thank you very much!
I was thinking that if I continue to get feedback, I'll post maybe a weekly blog entry or twice a week. I'll see how things go. Even if no one reads it, I'll probably do it anyway because I don't have anyone who will listen to me rant…

I am going to point out that I am working with limited resources. I'm at school right now and have no access to Fox Soccer Channel (only on the weekends I go home), so
I'm working solely with the highlight reel from this week's game between
St. Louis Saint Louis (They don't even play IN Missouri, but I digress...) and DC.
I am deeply saddened and feel very much for the Athletica. They've had a rough start. I saw them absolutely dominate the Red Stars in terms of poss…

I can't even begin to express how thrilled I am that the season is FINALLY here. It's been a long 5 and a half years waiting for the return of women's professional soccer in this country. I love that unlike the WUSA, where the closest team to me was about 8 hours away, I have 2 teams within a reasonable driving distance. I've already been to as many WPS games as WUSA games! (A grand total of...one. lol)
There were many things I truly loved about the WUSA. First of all, it was a big part of my "…

I grew up spending my summers as a young teenager loving the WUSA in all its forms. In 2001 when most of the games were showed mostly locally, I was able to use my DirecTV sports package to my advantage by watching almost every single game played that season. For three years I followed the news and stats religiously. Needless to say, I love the beautiful game.
Joyously, I didn't watch all those games and not learn anything. I think the intense soccer watching during a great developmental period…
