Pat Free Elizabeth Lambert...sinner/saint

Everyone keeps blah blah yapping about the beautiful game this the beautiful game that, what they fail to understand is the true nature of football. Football is the only sport that can explain the world. Go to your local Mexican adult league game and tell me thats a clean soccer game, even the so called beautiful brazil, look what Rivoldo did against turkey out in the open he cheated and took advantage brazil would not have won if it wasnt for Rivoldo using his method or even most recently what… Continue

Pott Rocks THE WORLD OF WOMENS SOCCER IN POTT'S MIND. USA WON-GERMS ZEEEERRROOOOOO

It's been a while since I've been on here. I have been going through some life changes. Some good, some....not so good. I don't dwell on the past and never fret at things I cannot change but I do like to bring one thing up when it comes to women's soccer, the 2007 WWC. Even though I wasn't on the field, on the team, or in the stadium I felt the pain, the emotion, the anger, the hatred and the heat. From the time I heard that Greg Ryan was doing a changing of the guard I knew it was a call for di… Continue

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Final Edition

What a year. What a season. What extraordinary history.

A few years after the Women's United Soccer Association folded, Women's Professional Soccer picked up the pieces.

Seven teams from seven different cities made a commitment to rekindle the dream to develop the women's game in a country with a tradition of producing some the of the best players in the world.

The journey to this championship started on a late March afternoon in Los Angeles, and the journey ended o

Emily No Red Stars But a Freedom Star

For some people what can go wrong will go wrong, others however good things seem to fall into their laps. I can usually be described as the first one, except this past week when an oppurtunity presented itself and each time I think about these events I believe less and less in coincidence. As some might already know I don't live in a WPS city and the closest one is a good six hour drive from my house in a Cleveland suburb. I knew I probably wouldn't get to see a WPS game in person, so I had to… Continue

We have come to the end of the 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season, and we see Sky Blue FC clinch the final postseason berth. This year has been full of extraordinary everything: goals, saves, and skill all around. I am glad to have been a part of witnessing it, as you are.

As more history is made before our eyes this weekend, we take a look at the penultimate edition of the Power Rankings for this inaugural season.

1. ST. LOUIS ATHLETICA

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 19

The Los Angeles Sol are indeed beatable. Just ask the Chicago Red Stars, who give their home fans something to be happy about with one week of games in the regular season remaining. St. Louis returns to the top spot in this week's rankings.

Let's go right ahead and dissect the list for wonderful Week 19, which will see the European players take the rest of the season off for Women's Euro 2009.

JR Salazar Los Angeles-Chicago: Red Stars rise in final home game of season over Sol

A 3-1 defeat for the Los Angeles Sol to the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park in Bridgeview summons the question: Have the Sol slumped at the wrong time?

And another question: where was this effort by the Women of the Windy City during a good deal of the 2009 Women's Professional Soccer season?

Emma Hayes's club pulled in a performance that was reminiscent of their 4-0 victory over the Boston Breakers early in the season.

But a series of poor finishing, patchwork def

JR Salazar Los Angeles vs. Chicago: A Play-By-Play (and Other Miscellany)

T-15 minutes to kickoff: Hello everyone at Bleacher Report. Reporting here from my little one-man press box in West Long Beach to provide my insights on today's match.

As I look back on a quarter-century of being here, I also look back on what has been a magnificent season for the WPS Regular Season champions, the Los Angeles Sol. Today, they face the Chicago Red Stars at Toyota Park.

It will be a matter of pride for the Red Stars, under manager Emma Hayes. Already out of

Pat Whats wrong with Natsha Kai?

Despite the unbelievable plays and excitement from the players in the league, I think fans have to realize that these players are human as well. They are not going to play every game to their potential. Sometimes there are forces outside of playing futbol plaguing the minds of these players. Just because you are a Pro athlete does not make you immune to being a human. Ive read some Natasha Kai bashing lately, Yeah so she held her head down in a game but does anyone not see what the whole sky blu… Continue

snipoppers16 Chicago Red Stars....I Love You!

This was an incredibly frustrating season to watch. I've admittedly suffered through worse seasons, such as 2002 when my beloved New York Power won a total of 2 games in a 21 game season following their heartbreaking defeat in the league semi-finals the year before. But somehow the pain is worse this time around. It might have something to do with seeing the damage in person. Or the $15 parking at Toyota Park, which costs more than the individual tickets, (Fact: Parking at Disneyland is $12.) pu… Continue

Nicole Hack An upcoming interview with Red Stars player Nikki Krzysik

Nikki Krzysik has started 9 games so far for the Red Stars this season. She is probably one of the sweetest players I have come across this year. I'll be interviewing Nikki, so check out this blog post and look for details on when/where to submit questions to ask Nikki. Thanks! What would you like to know about Red Stars player NContinue

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 18

With the Los Angeles Sol clinching the WPS Regular Season championship, the race for the remaining three playoff spots sees Chicago and FC Gold Pride drop out.

So let's take a look at the rankings this week, while I cry in my birch beer after the USA men suffered their second-straight second-half pratfall in an international championship match.

1. LOS ANGELES SOL

Abner Rogers's Sol didn't clinch the WPS Regular Season trophy on Wednesday, but they g

Pat ALL-STAR SELECTIONS, AHH OK SO FAR

I thought all-star selections should be people who did well this last season. Im a bit annoyed by some of the selections. It seems only the big named players, (even thou many of them did not do well at all this season) are the ones selected into the all-star game. I have a bone to pick with these players and their selection into the all star game. First and biggest bone to pick: Carli Lloyd, granted she is one of my favorite players (if you don't believe me read my previous blogs) but Carli w… Continue

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 17

As the Los Angeles Sol prepares for its three-game road trip and its counterpart, the LA Galaxy, plays AC Milan to a 2-2 draw, the Boston Breakers retake the top spot in this week's WPS Power Rankings. Could the Sol make a run and finish second?

Let's take a look and find out.

1. Boston Breakers

Returning to the top spot this week is Tony DiCicco's Boston Breakers. A key pair of victories this week have paced Boston to second in the WPS standings

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 16

In this week's edition of the 2009 WPS Power Rankings, we come to the conclusion that any fortress can be breached, so long as you play like a tired, exhausted shell of yourself.

Just ask the team that dropped to second in our Power Rankings, the Los Angeles Sol.

Meanwhile, the hopes of the other teams below LA begin to flicker, so let's take a look.

1. ST. LOUIS ATHLETICA

Jorge Barcellos got the breakthrough victory he needed from his club

Shannon Nicole;; What is up with this!?!?

WPS/News/Transactions June 26, 2009: The Chicago Red Stars have named Lotta Schelin from Sweden as a discovery player and have been assigned her WPS-playing rights. I thought St. Louis had the WPS-playing rights to her!?!? She was one of our picks in the International Draft. Continue

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 15

In a league like the WPS, we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all footballers are created equal, that they are endowed by the footballing gods that be with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of postseason happiness.

As the Los Angeles Sol perch on the doorstep of winning the Women's Professional Soccer regular season championship, the teams below jostle for the other three playoff spots up for grabs.
