Ashton DeBoe Angela Hucles Retiring

I can't believe Angela Hucles retired. I thought she was actually pretty good. She was one of the best on the Boston Breakers. I still can't believe she left before the USA's match against Germany. I'm sure the team will miss her, and I'm sure her fans will, too. Far well, Angela!!! Continue

JR Salazar Los Angeles vs. Boston: Captain Shannon steers Sol to victory

The Los Angeles Sol can now claim the honor of being the first team in Women's Professional Soccer history to have beaten each of its opponents at least once.

Down 1-0 and the lack of form rearing its ugly head yet again, manager Abner Rogers went forward to bring in Camille Abily. Thanks to her presence, a Marta equalizer and a stoppage-time penalty by team captain Shannon Boxx was all the Sol needed to claim a 2-1 victory over the Boston Breakers at Harvard Stadium.

With the Los Angeles Sol clinching the WPS Regular Season championship, the race for the remaining three playoff spots sees Chicago and FC Gold Pride drop out.

So let's take a look at the rankings this week, while I cry in my birch beer after the USA men suffered their second-straight second-half pratfall in an international championship match.

Boston Breakers Breakers Practice Blog - 7/16/09

Blog written by Boston Breakers media relations intern Jess Lander. Coming off a good win last night, the Breakers might have finally found a good mix of starting eleven. But, going into Sunday’s game against FC Gold Pride, they are without more than just their two English teammates. With the US National Team playing a game against Canada, the Breakers will now be without SEVEN of their usual starting eleven. Not to mention four of the seven, make up the entire Breakers defense. The play… Continue

Boston Breakers Breakers Practice Blog - 7/14/09

Blog written by Boston Breakers media relations intern Jess Lander. Coming off another disappointing loss, and heading into another tough game tomorrow, it looks like Tony is once again trying to find a line up that’ll work. While the Breakers did defeat Chicago 2-0 the last time they met, they also suffered their worst loss this season to the Red Stars 4-0 in their initial meeting. The Breakers go into tomorrow’s game already without two pretty important things: their English stars. Bo… Continue

Just ask the team that dropped to second in our Power Rankings, the Los Angeles Sol.

Meanwhile, the hopes of the other teams below LA begin to flicker, so let's take a look.

Boston Breakers Breakers Practice Blog 7/10/09

This is the start of a new blog, written by Boston Breakers media relations intern Jess Lander. The best part about today was not having to huddle under a covered bench with my raincoat on because summer finally showed its face around Boston. So instead, I took my seat upon ‘The Gator” (see photo) and watched practice. Well, some of practice. My eyes kept wandering off the field to where Kristine Lilly’s adorable daughter Sydney was learning to walk. A kid that cute is pretty distracting… Continue

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Power Rankings: Week 15

In a league like the WPS, we hold these truths to be self-evident: that all footballers are created equal, that they are endowed by the footballing gods that be with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of postseason happiness.

As the Los Angeles Sol perch on the doorstep of winning the Women's Professional Soccer regular season championship, the teams below jostle for the other three playoff spots up for grabs.

JR Salazar 2009 WPS Weekly Power Rankings: Week 14

Plenty of action this week in Women's Professional Soccer. By the way, a Happy Independence Day to you all. Even though this article is posted beforehand, I believe that coming prepared for what will happen in the future is key to surviving the cruel realities of the present.

Now, it's no surprise who is first this week.

I mean, do we even need to figure it out? All right, I have been drinking a little too much of that tonic the touters on Fox Soccer Channel call 5-Hour Ene

Let's take a look.

1. LOS ANGELES SOL

This week, Abner Rogers's Sol claim the number one spot once again. It must be the fact that they are only playing one match over this weekend, against a FC Gold Pride team that they took care of easily 2-0.

Drew Kelly Smith = Tyler Hansbrough

Cross-posted from gooneronthebayou.blogster.com. There has been a lot of discussion about how many times Kelly Smith has been fouled this season, so I decided to see for myself since the Breakers were on the FSC game this weekend. What I immediately noticed was that she does not play like a normal striker. There were times when she was further back on defense than her own central midfielders. While she never failed to cover her duties upfield,… Continue
