Domestic Allocation

It seems like a while ago since I last blogged. As you know, I've been really busy putting together the roster and securing the rights for 8 potential Red Stars. Let's begin with the three Americans. I'm absolutely delighted to have three starting USWNT players joining the Red Stars.

First, Lindsay Tarpley. She's someone I've been following for a long time, since her days at UNC. Her goal-scoring record at college is second to none, and that has always impressed me about her. Her coach once sen… Continue

WPSL combine

I am very excited to be attending the WPSL combine this weekend in Sacramento. Coaches of the WPS will get a first hand opportunity to see players from the WPSL over a three day weekend. As a former coach in the W-league, I feel very strongly that we should build good relationships with both the WPSL and the W-league as they have both been grooming the players that will grace the WPS stage.

I know for me as a coach I am looking forward to it. That said, I know it can be difficult for players th… Continue

A new era, new ways and certainly some new fans...

I think for all of us watching that exhilarating game this morning between USA and Canada, we can all agree that this US team has come so far in such a short space of time. In what was billed the battle of the Americas, the US got off to a blistering start resulting in an early lead and early dominance. Then, mother nature intervened for an hour resulting in a game delay which knocked the momentum out of the US game and handed some parity back to the Canadians.

The game restarted and Canada did… Continue

The Women's game - Greater parity

Unlike economies of this world where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, the Women's game is developing at a rate where teams are getting closer to each other with every passing year. This is the fourth Olympics for Women's soccer and the first time 12 teams have taken part. That is a celebration in it's own right, and I hope that by the next Olympics we have 16 spots allocated the women's game, just like in the men's competition. As you may know I have been in Shengyang watching the Br… Continue

Olympics: Opening Ceremony - China leaves the world awestruck

The world saw China as it sees itself and as it wants to be seen by the world.

The opening ceremony of the Olympic Games was about China’s historic achievements and its dreams of future success. The show focused on moments that China sees as defining its journey through history, culminating in its current status on the brink of becoming a world superpower.

Zhang Yimou, the designer of the breathtaking show and an Oscar-nominated film director, selected themes that would be easily understood by… Continue

Also Mark despite putting in such detail there is a reason England have no decent Olympic results, the men in charge won't let them enter (Olympics is GB not England)
They qualified for Beijing but were not allowd to send a team by the FAs I think.
Thankfully that should change in 2012 in London

God Mark talk about putting the boot in!!! I think you need to lay off Emma a bit, She did a awsome job with arsenal even if she was just assistant!!! it take's time my friend... I play soccer myself in scotland and to be honest it aint all about the manager, Mayb if some player got there finger out and start playing as a team there would be better results!!! just a idea!!!!
You seem a bit obsesed with the looking into emmas background thats jst creepy... Sorry just my thoughts!!

Another loss tonight to LA.

4-0, equaling the worst loss in WPS history.

When will Emma be canned?

Emma,

After seeing that your team hasn't won a game in two months (as of the fathers day game, June 21) and seeing that your team hasn't been able to score a goal in the last 300+ minutes, I started to think......hmmmm, all these players, ALL of them, have been successful at their careers before. Yet somehow, they look disorganized, look lost, look like they are playing a system that makes no sense (4-3-3).

So I decided to do a little homework, to check the net and see what your past records showed as a coach show, since it appears you are blaming your players for the debacle created under your watch (yes, I know more about the inside than you'd want to know).

Here's what I found:

Long Island Lady Rough RIders:

- As head coach for the Long Island Lady Rough Riders, your record was: 9-15-2.

- This equated to a win % of .346

- Your first year at the rough riders, you garnered a record of 2-9-1 and they were relegated your team to a Second Division USL D-3 League. It was the the teams worst year in history. Yes, ever in history.

- The next year, you attained a record on 7-6-1 with the Rough Riders, after relegation to the lower level You did win the championship of the lower D-3 league, the league you were forced into due to the failure the year before.

Conclusion: You suffered the worst season in Long Islands history and coached them to their only relegation.

Iona College:

As head coach at Iona College, your record was (2003-2006): 26-40-10

- This equated to a win % of .342

2003 - 3-13-2

2004 - 9-8-3

2005 - 10-8-1

2006 - 4-11-4

You lost more games in her first year than Anson Dorrance, Clive Charles and Jerry Smith did in 2001, 2002 and 2003, COMBINED (they also played far more games, 86, during that timeline against much tougher competition!).

You were "coach of the year" in 2004 for the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference with a booming 9-8-3 record. The conference is made up of "powerhouses" such as Loyola of Maryland, Fairfield, Siena, Canislius, Niagra, Manhattan, Marist, Iona, Rider and St. Peter's. That's like saying you were "basketball player of the year" at your local outdoor court.

Chicago Red Stars

2009 (as of 6/22/2009) - 2-5-5

This equated to a win % .166

Career Totals as a Head Coach: 37-60-17 Career Win % .324

How about we compare the win/loss percentage of the teams Carli Lloyd, Lindsay Tarpley, Megan Rapinoe and others were on. Most are well over 85% for their careers.

Hmmmmm. I wonder if the problem is the ever successful players or the never successful coach. Oh, wait, you were an assistant with Arsenal. Who'd Chelsea, whoops, I mean, Arsenal, play with the team they bought?

How's England done in the WWC and Olympics, Emma?

Time to move on with Emma and Denise. Peter and Marcia. The team has lost total confidence in the coaching staff and it will not return. Why wait to do the inevitable? FIRE THE COACHING STAFF NOW!!!! The only thing that will happen is more losses and more frustration within your incredible player pool.
