I agree with most all of you, it's sad, wrong and MONTOYA IS A JOKE & THE OWNERS ARE CLUELESS. They are a family with to much money and like employing a friend. The Brazilians will not be back because Monty does not want them back. I sure hope they return to the league so the owners can see they are stars and belong on the field not the &%@#'N bench. My thinking is Brandi is a marketing move and they do think she will sell seats. The crowed is totally dead unless there is free food or Brandi is going in or coming off.....

What truly bothers me is that some say they will not support the Pride because they no longer have Brazilian players.....??WTF?? That is just as STUPID & SHALLOW as Montoya.

Rock75... You should see or maybe you do, the FC Santos web site.. I dont understand the language, but the girls are playing together.. Erika, Cristiane, Marta and Fran.. and you should see the goals, games... Im sure they are finally enjoying playing and scoring;.. It was hard for them here, but they gave it a shot.. and for a dum ass coach that dosent know how to set up a team, to KILL their dream, it was sad.. I do hope they do come back to another team, i dont care where, but hopefully they can come back... Im happy I have lots of pics of them, to see the lovely smiles and joy they had... Montoya willl regret every game , every moment.. and not only him, but the owners, realizing how much MORE they will loose because of that dum ass....

I dont see the political benefit to keep Chastain as a protected player. Not to take anything from her glory days in '99, as she was good back then. But let's be realistic. She is 42. You are going to tell me she is still a premier player, enough so to fill a protected roster spot? Do the owners of the Pride cling to her past accomplishments thinking she will bring in fans? Come on guys, we are smarter than that. Make Chastain the head coach, or maybe the assistant to take Sissi's place. Given the Pride's logic, maybe the Niners should re-sign Jerry Rice as a reciever??? Joe Montana as QB??? Let's at least try to improve the team this season, not stay where we ended.

Free Agents and those put on Waivers are not under contract by their former team. Those players are free to sign with whom they desire...so yes you are correct Warrior49. For Osborne she may of asked for the release, wanting to go play else where.....I can't blame her if that was the case. I'm sorry to say that most likely no Brasilian will be back next year....I'd be very surprised if they decide to come back...their style of play is so opposite Montoya's.....and they are very proud people and certainly didn't enjoy sitting on the bench when they knew they should be on the pitch! Chastain being signed looks political......but whatever.

My heart was ripped out when NONE OF the Brasilians were even protected and like I said appear to be GONE from the Pride. So Gallit0 I'm with you on this......

Well if its anything like the NFL and other sports, those waived or free agent players are unprotected, and if another club wants them they can sign with them. I don't think any players are going to count on a wink to keep them paid and with a team. Which brings me to Chastain. In my opinion, due to her age and local connection, it was doubtful that if left unprotected she would sign with another team. The Pride could have waived her, and brought in some fresh talent. The world is filled with fast, smart, female soccer players.

What does "free agent" and "waived" really mean?

Does it mean that some of the players who are unlikely to go somewhere else can just refuse to get signed by some other club and then can be re-signed by the Pride? If that's true the list may be politics to league and not mean what it might seem to suggest... A lot of those players could be back if there is is a wink and a pre-agreement between club and player that their status on the list doesn't mean they are really "gone".

Osborne and Sisi would seem to come under this theory...

I agree... The club needs to stay "young." Chastain wasn't going to another club. That is a roster spot that could be used for Formiga, Osborne, ect... Ugh, it's gonna be a rough season.

I'm shocked. Montoya kept Chastain, when he could have signed her at any time leading up to training camp, if he needed her and dumped Osborne and Formiga. I just don't understand him. I was upset with his coaching all through the season and I'm upset with his team management this offseason. So far her gets an 'F' regarding restructuring of the roster. Let's see who he brings in now that the signing period has started. I'm not holding my breath but I am withholding my money.

My analysis: Buehler, Sinclair, Barney, Wilson, DiMartino... all good choices. I would have kept Formiga... the player who kept Marta in check when the Sol played here. And Weimer; she started so strong, and it seemed like he benched her midway through the season (clash of personalities?). Looks like Montoya got sick of hearing the fans asking for the Brazilians to play, so he got rid of all of them.
