Women's Professional Soccer

Free agent signings began on Thursday, Oct. 8 as the Boston Breakers agreed to terms with forward Tiffany Weimer and defender/midfielder Erika Sutton. FC Gold Pride (Bay Area) did likewise with defender Candace Chapman. The Philadelphia Independence also agreed to terms with their top pick in the international draft, Swedish midfielder Caroline Seger.

Since then, we've seen rosters grow at nearly all of the WPS teams, and just this week Sweden's Jessica Landstrom signed with Sky Blue FC, and England's Katie Chapman signed with the Chicago Red Stars. Agreements pending league certification.

At WPS, we want to know: Which new roster addition are you most excited to see play in 2010, and why?

I am not sure but Sky Blue has signed tons of players than other teams.

I would like to see this Germans Inka Grings, Annike Krahn, Dzsenifer Marozsan & Simone Laudehr, but it's not going to happen untill after 2011 womens world cup. And also Ri Kum Suk(DPR NORTH KOREA), I understand that, the N. Korea would not allow theirs players to play away from home.
But, I would to see any teams from WPS, especially Washington Freedom try to sign Rosie White of New Zealand, she is one of the up comming teens from kiwis, she's kiwis striker.

Landström and Bachmann are the most interesting additions so far to me. WPS teams sure have ripped through Damallsvenskan and taken opportunity of the financial let down of Swedish women soccer clubs. I wonder if a team is able to persuade energetic Solveig Gulbrandsen to cross the pond. Still hard to see she will bring her family with her or splitting up during the season. She certainly would be one of my WPS favs instantly.

I am curious as to how many Aussies are going to be in the league this season. Last season they had 5 in the league: Lisa DeVanna, Sarah Walsh, Colette McCallum, Heather Garriock and Lydia Williams. So far Lisa DeVanna is the only one signed for the upcoming year. It seems to me that McCallum and Walsh both did enough to be conisdered to rejoin their respective sides. As for Garriock and Williams I don't expect to see either back. I don't think anybody wants to spend an international spot on a backup goalkeeper(Williams) and although Garriock is the captain of the Matildas she could not get healthy all season and seems too risky to spend an international spot on. One player possibly deserving a look would have to be Michelle Heyman, player for Central Coast Mariners of the Westfield league. She is lighting up the competition from her striker position with 12 goals on the year with numerous assists in only 9 games, far ahead of everybody else in the league. Wouldn't mind seeing her play along side Weimer in Boston. If she does not get the nod from a WPS squad I would guess she would likely end up in Sweden this summer.

As for current signings I am looking forward to seeing Caroline Seger in action. I have yet to see her play and I am curious to if she will deliver along with the southern Breakers' squad. :)

Hey Chevy, Williams is actually one of those 'exception' players that actually hold dual-citizenship (Australia/US)... so she did not and would not take up a team's international slot. Just a note.

Locked out how? Several dozen of them will be picked up in January's draft. The rest are probably just not good enough for WPS - if they still think they are, they can prove themselves overseas or on a W-League team.

If 5 - 10 players from college make any pro team that would be alot.

I would love for this league to florish, so the community roots are truly needed.

I should have said that several dozen will be drafted. This is a very deep draft, so it wouldn't surprise me to see some early second-round players make it to opening day, but, yes, that's about as far as it's likely to go.
