Firstly, I think they are horrid.
Secondly, what is this new trend in WPS where a fullback is (trying to shield) obstructing a forward to allow her keeper to pick it up, and as the forward goes around, the fullback tucks in her arm with the elbow and slams the forward into the ground?

Hello - Ref - that is a foul.
Anybody see that w/ Sky Blue v Breakers?

And Marta's push the other week that gave that player a stretcher?

The last one is easy - there are different rulebooks for stars than there are for the rest of the players. Refer to any pro sports league. In fact, the NHL is blatently demonstrating that right now.

Marta was not shoulder to shoulder. Well, technically, if you watch it again she jumped at and into her which is a push. What she did was a charge. Shoulder to shoulder using your body weight is legal, but she jumped in which was very reminiscent of the St Louis v Washington match.

I wish I could my video on my computer and upload but a well! haha

I agree, the refs are allowing way too many fouls to go unnoticed or unpunished. People are getting hurt and if the situation doesn't change, more will get hurt. When is it going to stop?

Sunday's Freedom-Gold Pride match was called very tightly (certainly in comparison with the last match at the Soccerplex), so maybe the referees are getting the message.

I think that the ref's are calling the WRONG fouls too often. They need to start calling the fouls which can potentially hurt the players and stop calling the little shoulder bumps and let them play.

haha i say let them play... I don't want to start seeing players taking dives just to get petty calls like guys soccer.

Unless it's a blatent attempt to obstruct a goal or something, i'd let the girls go at it, theyre tough!!!

Can you be more specific, I'm watching that match and the ref seems like he's doing a fine job. Any particular play you were thinking of?

Certainly looked like a handling foul on Lilly to me. In fact it looks like the ref gave her a break and called the one outside the box instead of the one inside the box. I don't know about Rodriguez but she has nothing to complain about the way she played in that game, she's better than that.

Here's the story of that game--a Breakers forward (Nobis?) got pulled down by the jersey in the opposing box in the opening minutes to lose the ball, no call. Also in the first half there was a St. Louis defender handball in the box, no call. And the icing on the cake, how about Hope Solo taking the ball in hand completely out of the box to distribute--not a tiny bit out of the box, but 5 yards or more? All three of those should have been PKs. We recorded the match on DVR and watched the plays in slow motion--there was no question. And yes, they aren't calling Boston handballs either--spotted several Sunday night, spotted several today at the Breakers-Gold Pride game including a Heather Mills handy in the her own box that should have cost the Breakers a goal. Starting to think they are just not calling handballs at all unless they were blatantly intentional, then they called a Boston player for an unintentional against the upper arm while trying to chest the ball--so basically they are just blind.

I didn't really see the Nobis call, so I can't really dispute this, however....

SOOOOO Hope Solo took the ball out of the box huh...ya think that should be a Penalty Kick...Huh Huh...Really? Cause I think what she is, is a goalie, who can't get a penalty kick called against her for handling the ball inside the box. OH OH But you said she brought the ball OUTSIDE of the box...OH NOW I SEE. So she just becomes a player......now what happens when a Player, Handles the Ball OUTSIDE the box? Hmmmmm What could it beeeeee. OH I KNOW a Penalty Kick. That happens ALL the time right?

Gee I guess if you get something as simple as that wrong, maybe you're not really qualified to judge the referees and what mistakes they made. Don't take it personal, that was just too much fun to pass up.
