Women's Professional Soccer

So with the team name, logo, and colors getting announced on Monday, May 18th, anybody want to take a stab at what those three will be?

I'm hoping it's Philadelphia Charge, updated version of the WUSA logo, and red/white like in the WUSA.

I will gag if it's Philadelphia Independence, bring the Charge back!

I think they can do better than the old logo (though it wasn't as bad as the old Freedom logo). Red-and-white would be good, but really they just need to stay away from blue because too many teams are using that already.

What about the name?

I really hope Philadelphia and Atlanta bring back the Charge and Beat.

Atlanta is having a "Name the Team" contest. You can see the 3 finalists at the above website.

Beat is one of the 3 choices. The Atlanta Attack (another option) was an Atlanta Men's Indoor Soccer franchise back in the late 80's (the owner was the guy heading up the new Atlanta women's WPS franchise, I believe). Storm is the 3rd choice.

Yeah, the Atlanta Beat and the Philly Charge is okay in my book. I just hope they get updated logos. For some reason, the Atlanta Beat logo just didn't sit well with me.

I'm more wedded to the Beat than the Charge. I'd be annoyed if they changed the former but wouldn't care all that much if they changed the latter. Not sure why, maybe just Atlanta Beat makes vaguely more sense than Philadelphia Charge.

But as long as they bring the teams back, that's great!

Stay with Atlanta Beat & Philadelphia Charge (for the sake of WUSA).

Quick Post RE: EPYSA Workshop
I have been to the EPYSA workshop today... What a dead event litterral a huge drop off in turn out and vendors from 2 years ago (I did not get there last year).. Not to critize as I know times are tough but I did not get nearly the amount of freebies I would have in years past.. rather slim on the giveaways

Anyway, I spoke with Matt Driver of the WPS
He confirmed that the name will be Philladelpia Independence (Not too crazy about the name... but I bet if hada name the team contect it would have ended up as CHARGE FC (I would have had all my IT friends voting on it)

well that sucks, Philadelphia Independence sucks.

I mean I guess it would work with the Washington Freedom rivarly, but blah.

You stole my thunder - I was going to say the Freedom needed competition in the 'dumbest name ever' contest lol.

I still think the Freedom 'win' that contest - at least Independence has a local feel with Philly having Independence Hall and all that. Not sure people really associate DC with freedom that quickly.

I would generally be against teams reusing the WUSA names - Do we really need to be reminded of a failed league? (Freedom at least have operated continuously since the WUSA folded, I don't believe Boston has)

I wouldn't like the FC tagged on at the end. Philadelphia Charge is better off by itself IMO.

I don't care for the Sky Blue FC, should be NJ/NY Sky Blue, hell it really should be New York Power.

FC Gold Pride should be Bay Area Gold Pride or really San Jose CyberRays.

I think the names "Beat" and "Charge" are both ridiculous. I mean, what exactly do they have to do with the cities, in general?

For Atlanta, none of the 3 finalist names are any good. Change the "B" to an "H", and Atlanta Heat is more appropriate.

For Philly, Independence is OK, but what a word! Kind of a mouthful. A bit too close to "Freedom", too. I guess we know what the July 4th weekend match-up will always be!
