I was at the Uefa Cup final second leg against Arsenal Ladies in 2007. She was amazing, she ran the show in midfield, had loads of trickery and hit the bar about 3 or 4 times!
Arsenal held on for a goaless draw to take the cup but she was a cut above everyone else. Then of course there was the world cup and the Olympics. She's the best in the world at the moment so it's going to be really exciting!

I'm flying in from Chicago to Marta's premier. Yup. I'm excited.

I wonder how long each team has to sign contracts with the players if the games start March 29....the rumor is that the average salary will be 30-50k per player - so how will the other players feel that Marta is getting $1.5MM or $500k per year and they make 1/10th that if they are lucky?

The same way that the bottom feeders just coming up from the minor leagues in MLB do about A-Rod or Texiera. Envious and motivated.

Having the best player in the world playing in your league can never be a bad thing. I'm more a fan of the league and hoping for its success more than a fan of any particular team. Didn't really care where Marta ended up, just glad she's here.

i think people are overestimating Marta
like how people sorta over estimated beckham
yet again he was retired.
one person does not make a team
duhh im pretty phsyched that shes in the WPS
but im more excited bout rampone and o'reilly and especially kai
for the pure fact that i would have NEVER guessed she would be on SB
so yea. thats what i say

David Beckham has never been retired. When he signed with the LA Galaxy he was playing on Real Madrid in La Liga.

Agree with #1FanBrendinha!, In UK beck is over-rated, there's alot good footballers in EPL, that plays better than Beck.
No doubt he just an average footballer.
What good he does with LA Gaxaly? Just his PR.

When Marta scores more goals than Mia, then I will call her better than Mia.

Correct me if I’m wrong but didn’t Cristiano Ronaldo win this years FIFA Player of the year I don’t think he has an Olympic medal or has won a World Cup and has a huge contract. Marta deserves every right to be the FIFA Player of the year. In sports their have been many winners of MVP trophies and they have never won a world championship or an Olympic gold medal.
Anyways, I think we should not confuse the USWNT with the WPS. Yes the players from the USWNT are the basic foundation for the league but not the only players. In La Liga or the Serie A the Spanish and the Italian players are not given the better contracts only cause they were the recent winners of the World Cup and won Europe. The highest contract is given to the best players. Soccerdad says,
I Agree that Marta is Fifa player of the year (without a WWC or Olympic Title) but my point is that Is that one team can afford to Sign her and many can't.
Ofcourse other teams can’t sing her, many teams can’t afford to sign Kobe Bryant, Manny Ramirez, Lebron James or the whole New York Yankees roster, etc…. WPS is a business not the National Team
Once again lets not confuse the National Team with the WPS.
Marta deserves this type of contract, I have been following soccer and playing in semi pro leagues for years now and I have never seen such a skillful women soccer player as her (yes better than Mia)

I was comparing them in terms of Name regognition and attention getting, not skill

In Terms of Pay the USWNT is Negotiating with the WPS as a group, not as an individual for some would be given a higher value and some lower, but they will be held to a group contract.

Hope Solo would surely command a larger contract, as would HAO (Because of where she is and name recognition)

Mia Hamm - 275 caps/158 goals = 0.57 goals/match
Marta - 46 caps/47 goals = 1.02 goals/match

Draw your own conclusions

I don't like to compare players, who's better or who's the best!.
All I can say is, each players is better during their days.
Mia is the best during her days.
Martha is the best during her days.

She has 111 more goals to score doesn't she.
And I agree with Supermokh, mostly.
