Boston traded Amy Rodriguez (and the 5th WPS Draft pick in January) to Philly in exchange for the 2nd and 11th draft picks. Good or bad move?

I think it is a good move for both. IMO, A-Rod is not a Tony Dicicco type of player. I think he may have chosen her #1 last year because he felt he had to. Amy Rodriguez is not a go-to player. She needs someone else to be with her up front. She pairs off very well with Wambach and Cheney. A-Rod has the speed to track a long pass down the line and feed someone for a goal. She does that very well. Also her speed can cause havoc for defense. But she is not someone who can do it all by herself. IMO, A-Rod is a Scottie Pippen type of player. The invaluable, talented workhorse who works hard to get the ball, and feeds the other guy who scores. A player that any successful team needs. Boston, IMO couldn't come up with a pair like that, so A-Rod was rendered pretty much useless. She didn't have a role to play there and thus it was a lost-year of confusion. This will be a new start for her and with the right combo of players and the right coach she will excel.

Boston on the other hand gets #2 pick in the draft. So they will have their pick of either Heath, Cheney, Nogiera, or O'Hara. Two of which are improbable at Boston because Tony didn't pick them on the final U-20 squad that won the U-20 WWC last year. So my guess will be he will have a choice of either Tobin Heath or Lauren Cheney and the #11 overall pick, which, IMO is a pretty good deal.

A very good move for A-Rod. A-Rod wasn't appreciated at Boston. She is a very good player and just needs a coach who knows where to use her. Hopefully, Philly will provide what A-Rod deserves. It's evident that Philly recognizes the skill and speed to give up two draft picks. In my opinion, giving up the draft picks was a steal for Philly. All Amy needed was someone who appreciates her talent, and has the know-how where and how to use her. It just may be, Philly is that team. I really expect Amy to be right up there with the best next year.

I wish the Los Angeles Sol would have made a play for A-Rod. I knew she was going to availble, i wrote a few post about how she would be the perfect fit to play along side Marta. I feel the Sol missed a golden chance to complete the perfect season.

I was so surprised, I didn't see that one coming. But Milan made some excellent points, and I'm happy A-Rod will be playing in a city close to Maryland :D. I can easily watch one of my favorite players in her home games, this is awesome.

Now if only Hope Solo could move to DC or Philly... nah, she's never gonna leave STL.

As a diehard Boston Breakers fan, I am sorry to see A-Rod leave Boston. As an Amy Rodriguez fan, I'm very happy for her. She needed a fresh start and a different system. I hope she flourishes in Philly. Frankly, I hope she scores a hat trick whenever she plays Boston. (As long as it's not in the final.)

I don't know much about Tobin Heath. Lauren Cheney is an excellent player, I'd like to see her play for Boston.

Can't see Tobin lasting long enough in the draft for Sky Blue to pick her unless they trade for a higher selection position. Odds are she's going to either Atlanta or Boston.

Tony Dicicco is an idiot. He couldn't evan get one of the most talented WPS teams into the post season and now he trades a very good, young player like A-Rod, which he never played anyway. I mean, he never gave her a chance to succeed. His time has come and gone. The Breakers should get rid of this amatuer. You suck Tony!

Good Luck Amy!!!!!

Maybe I'm misremembering but didn't A-Rod play A LOT in the beginning of the season?

Its interesting that Amy is a product of the ODP program, a highly competitive collegiate program and the US National program and Tony's comment from not so long ago was that Boston needed to find an "international striker" after Boston missed out on the playoffs. In addition their front office alluding to pursuing an international was interesting as well. Shame on you Tony, you picked her for a reason maybe her performance is a reflection on the coaching she received. Which comes first the players or the system? Secondly take a Southern California native, born raised, attended college and translpant her to Boston? Hmmm, what do you think is going to happen? She is probably still trying to figure out those Northeast accents. I bet if you brought her back to the West Coast she'd be everything she was in college and more. It's too bad FC Gold Pride didn't take a shot at her, their anemic offense could use her and in tandem with Sinclair that might be a very dangerous duo.
