"Sol"... the ONLY beer of the Los Angeles WPS team! Ok, nevermind, it was just a marketing plot that jumped into my head. But to be honest, I really like that name!

Galaxy/Sol... it's all very astral.

I love history, so how about The "Los Angeles Limited", for the legendary passenger train?

The team could even mirror the color scheme from the famous passenger line, with green as a primary color with black and yellow accents, and use a sleek locomotive as a logo.

Los Angeles Limited would also make the team appear very selective and unique, which it would be, and the name may also remind some of European powerhouse Manchester United.

Also if the Los Angeles Limited were selected, and the team dressed in green and yellow (which was utilized by the passenger train), it would also reflect the green and yellow from the official Los Angeles flag. Of course, the color blue is also in the city flag and could easily be substituted for the color black that was used by the train.

Another possibility is the name of a butterfly species native to the Los Angeles the West Coast Ladies. I know, it is too simple, but the team could use a cool butterfly logo.

As Southern California has had a strong relationship with the United States Navy, how about saluting the women that served in the United States Navy in World War II? The Los Angeles WAVES. The logo could be a woman in the WWII WAVE uniform. As I said, I love history.

I like the idea but it's awfully close conceptually to Boston's name - the Breakers.

when you mentioned butterfly, i also thought about the Sacramento Monarchs of the WNBA. They utilized the name to partner with the Sacramento Kings, then used the monarch butterfly in their logo (all very brilliantly I might add).

Limited is kind of growing on me, and I like the use of history.

With a sleek passenger train as the logo for the Los Angeles (or L.A.) Limited, the mascot could be a woman (or perhaps even a man and woman couple) dressed in traditional train engineer clothing. The train engineer mascot would appeal to little girls as a strong female role model, and also appeal to train loving little boys.

How about LA Rattlers?

My daughter drew a picture of a Rattler Mascot:

While creating a whole new identity is good, the fact is, from a business sense the LA Galaxy name would be best. Cross marketing would be easy and cheap. The name is known the world over (thanks to Becks). It would encourage crossover from existing Galaxy fans that wish to support all things Galaxy. There are discussions by Galaxy supporters going on, and frankly they would go to more games if they shared the Galaxy name.

That won't happen. There may be double headers and they may have the same AEG connection but they won't be the Galaxy, the Lady Galaxians or anything closely related to the Galaxy is name.
