I was just wondering if anyone knows why the US has been wearing their jerseys without the US crest on it. I only just noticed in today's game when I saw that Angela Hucles had tape falling off her jersey where the crest would be. Then I was looking at the pictures on ussoccer.com from todays match and noticed that none of the players had the crest on their jersey and Hucles didn't have the crest on her jersey in the first half, so I'm assuming she changed her jersey at halftime and had to cover the crest up with tape in the second half. Looking at pictures from the past two games I noticed their jerseys didn't have the crest on them either. I just thought it was strange and I'm sure there's some sort of reason for it. There didn't appear to be a crest on their shorts either. And I don't believe the men's team had the crest on their jersey's either. Anyone have any clue?
The reason is because all teams are representing their countries, not the national sports federation/association.
All team uniforms cannot have the national crest, but can have the Olympic body crest. So, the USSoccer logo cannot be on the uniform, but the USOC logo can (if wanted).
If you look at other teams, you'll see the same thing. IOC has strict uniform policies...the individual team can keep their uniform sponsors, but not the nat'l logos.
I think it's a good idea because you're TEAM USA, not TEAM USA SOCCER.
The Brazilian men's team ran into the same problem when they had to ditch the kits they wore during their first game because it had the CBF logo and it was brought up to their attention.
I have a feeling that Angela was having issues with her uniform for the entire tournament whether it be because they ran out of them, a bag got lost or whatever ... I would imagine she had to wear a blank jersey on the front simply because they didn't have any with her #s available. I'm sure they would have fixed that for the semis...makes me wonder if there are rules about no numbers being on the front!

I think it's just some computer glitch or photo editing gone way wrong. I mean, all the other pictures of her from that game have a front # on her jersey!!
If you notice, she seems to wear a different jersey during the second half of the game. Durning the first half she had the number, then during the second half she didn't. Just like in the previous game where she had no crest on her jersey in the first half and then in the second half she had the crest covered up with tape. Maybe she just likes to come out with a clean jersey for the second half and they ran out of ones with her number on it. Although, didn't the back have her name and number on it?
