Women's Professional Soccer

What internationals would you like to see in WPS next year for the 2010 season?

Maybe next year WPS could find the right kind of scheduling so National Team duties don't get in the way of any WPS games like some have this year, although things can't always go perfect. And we don't have to worry about the UEFA European Women's Championship, Women's Euro, for another four years, so we wouldn't be losing internationals like we will this year.

Hoping for some Germans but talk is, that it's unlikely since they're preparing for the next World Cup in 2011. Perhaps some Norwegian players, which we don't have in WPS right now for this season also. After the international draft for this season, I heard Ingvild Stensland was going to play for St. Louis, but I guess she changed her mind. Possibly more French internationals as both Camille Abily and Sonia Bompastor are two of some of the top players in the world, in my opinion, as they have shown in WPS so far, really surprised me :) I also think we could use some Mexican internationals from the Mexican Women's National team. I don't know any of their players but I think it could help the attendance a bit at games.

I'm hoping the Freedom manage to sign Louisa Necib for next year - we had the rights this year but couldn't get her to join us.

Yeah I know, same thing happened to us with Stensland, and Schelin, and Renata Costa.

Yeah, I also hope Lene Mykjaland will play for Freedom next season.
There are three young womens players, I would gladly like to see them, with the Freedom New Zealand 17yrs phenomenal players Rosie White, next girl from Germany, 17yrs Dzsenifer (pronoun Jenifer) Marozsan & lastly England Isobel Christiansen. (I'm just hoping).
U can watch from you tube "Rosie White- the perfect hat-trick" & Dzsenifer Marozsan.

"...so we wouldn't be losing internationals like we will this year"

The one problem we will have is WWCQs.... I seriously hope WPS puts some serious effort into scheduling around those dates. Especially since we'll be losing all national team players on those dates, instead of just those that have friendlies, or just the European teams, etc.
Unfortunately they can't really extend the season that much, since the Algarve is always in early March, and teams like BOS and BAY have to worry about school-year sports starting late August...... [sigh]

Anyway, I have no clue who the next round of international draftees will be. I know STL will be losing Larsson, since she's going back to Europe. I think there might be a few others like that, too.
I would like to see Onho from Japan; Salisbury from Australia; Schlein, Ljungberg, & Svensson from Sweeden; Lang from Canada; and Dominguez from Mexico - to name a few.

Cheryl Salisbury I would like to see but earlier this year she announced her retirement from International play, so I'm assuming she'll retire from club play too. If she does play for a club? I don't know Australia clubs. I would like to see all the Swedish players you have mentioned. Even if Schelin would play for the Red Stars since apparently they have her playing rights. But I'm not counting on Schelin to play in 2010 because I think she'll still be under contract with Olympique Lyon, so maybe 2011.

Yes Cheryl Salisbury & Joanne Peters, boths has announced their retirement from International, but not Club level, their league's name is Australia Professional Westfield W-League, but their season 2009/2010 will only start in Oct 2009.

I wouldn't bet on any league in the United States ever respecting WCQ's. MLS has been around since 1996 and they STILL haven't figured it out yet. Why should WPS be any different???

I'd like to see the German ladies come over but that might be a problem with the ladie's bundesliga!

The German's ladies will come after WWC 2011.
I don't expect them (German) to come 2010 WPS season.

Hello..!!! So first of all..the German players ähm some of them really would like to come to the WPS already this year, but refering to the Bundesliga and the preparation for the EURO and the WWC2011 no chance..and I dont think that any of the german players will come to the wps before thw WWC2011...or if they retire from the National team..already been with the swedish players..because the players of wps teams from sweden have already retired from their national duties!
And losing international players for the wps games will be til 2011 normal daylife !!! Dont forget that after the EURO the World Cup Qualifying starts End of October this Year until End of August next year! SO WPS should really concider about the Qualifying time schedule and put it in their plans.. also the WWC 2011 will be right at the time when usually this would be the HOT phase of WPS season and the play-offs ( if it would be held this year...it would have been!! )
SO I do understand that WPS wants to avoid competiton with the BIG all-american sports and their schedules such as BASEBALL and AMERCIAN Football and stuff.. but after all they have to think that over!! - if they dont want to lose the international players all the time!!
I dont think that Schellin will come over before 2011... she was on the drafting list but as far as I know she has a contract at Olympic til 2011...and evena real good one!
The younger german players such as Dzeniffer or Kyra ..will probably not play directly at the WPS..if coming to USA they will go to a college / university..but I dont think that they will come over now... Youth Development centers have bee build up nearly every Bundeslige Womens team and we increase a lot with that.. just shown at the Under 17 European championship... so no need for young players to move over from germany!
LEts hope the Best for the WPS !!

It's not just that they don't want to compete against American fall sports, it's that some of their stadiums are used by colleges during the season and wouldn't be available then for the WPS teams to use, e.g., the Breakers, Sky Blue, and Gold Pride. Summer is really the only option.
